Making a bin cage

Below is a walkthrough of how we made a bin cage for Ivory.

StagePictureDescription
1The components and tools needed to build the cage.

The tools include heavy duty wire snippers (for 2mm sheet steel), a power drill, a jigsaw and assorted screwdrivers.

The components include the storage bin (which can be bought very cheaply), an appropriately sized 6mm mesh (this is for mice, for gerbils it could be coarser), a number of M4 nuts and bolts and duck tape.
2The mesh is cut roughly to size using the wire snips.
3Holes are drilled in the four corners of the lid to allow the jigsaw to make initial cuts.
4The jigsaw is used to remove the majority of the lid.
5The box with the lid removed.
6The rough edge is then sanded.
7The mesh is then tacked on using duck tape.
8Holes are drilled through the mesh and lid for where the nut and bolt will go.
9The mesh is fixed to the lid using nuts and bolts.
10The mesh and lid are secured using duck tape.
11A hole is drilled to allow the box to be fastened shut with wire.

13The water bottles are attached using duck tape (actually I've started using velcro strips on the back of the water bottle).
