Description
1
The components and tools needed to build the cage.
The tools include heavy duty wire snippers (for 2mm sheet steel), a power drill, a jigsaw and assorted screwdrivers.
The components include the storage bin (which can be bought very cheaply), an appropriately sized 6mm mesh (this is for mice, for gerbils it could be coarser), a number of M4 nuts and bolts and duck tape.
2
The mesh is cut roughly to size using the wire snips.
3
Holes are drilled in the four corners of the lid to allow the jigsaw to make initial cuts.
4
The jigsaw is used to remove the majority of the lid.
5
The box with the lid removed.
6
The rough edge is then sanded.
7
The mesh is then tacked on using duck tape.
8
Holes are drilled through the mesh and lid for where the nut and bolt will go.
9
The mesh is fixed to the lid using nuts and bolts.
10
The mesh and lid are secured using duck tape.
11
A hole is drilled to allow the box to be fastened shut with wire.

13
The water bottles are attached using duck tape (actually I've started using velcro strips on the back of the water bottle).

Two finished boxes side by side.

An alternative low box that is used by 3 male mice.
